UM International

The Universidad de Montevideo was born international. Since its inception, scholars across the world have come to teach and deliver innovative programs while providing new insights to Uruguayan education. 

In 1991, the University signed the first international partnership. Today it has agreements with first class universities worldwide. 

The Universidad de Montevideo seeks to be a leader in international education. It is committed to developing global citizens and leaders and to promoting research to increase the worldwide understanding of Latin America. 

Five core strategies define the Universidad de Montevideo’s approach to achieving this vision: 

  • Attract and retain international professors and students 
  • Deepen existing partnerships and develop agreements 
  • Extend and broaden the University´s international visibility 
  • Promote and increase research in strategic areas 
  • Build on-campus capacity to support collaboration

From 2011 to 2021, the University of Montevideo has ranked first and/or second place among national universities in Uruguay, according to the QS Ranking for Latin America. In 2016, the University first ranked number one in Uruguay for academic reputation, reputation among employers and number of teachers with doctorates. Since 2019 edition, UM has been among the top 500 Universities according to the QSWUR.

  • #2 among 110 universities in FDI International Arbitration Moot 2018 in Stockholm  

MEMBERSHIP TO MICROSOFT QUANTUM NETWORK 

  • The School of Engineering signed an agreement in May 2020 to become the first and only member of the Microsoft Quantum Network - Curriculum Partners in Latin

  • 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2022 – Ranked as first university in Uruguay according to QS University World Rankings.

  • 2020, 2021 & 2022 - Top 500 according to QS World University Rankings.

  • 2017 – UM Law students ranked third in the Vis Moot Competition in Vienna tied with Columbia University.
