The Master's Degree in English Language and Intercultural Bilingual Education seeks to provide educators with solid foundations that will let them act as intercultural mediators in an active, diverse, and tolerant society.

This graduate degree is aimed at professionals working as bilingual educators who wish to face challenges and broaden their knowledge of different theoretical and classroom-related issues, relevant to their educational and professional aims.

This program is, thus, open to elementary and high-school English teachers, translators, and professionals with a degree in other disciplines who seek to gain insight into bilingual education policies and methodologies.

Furthermore, the program acts as an introductory research pathway for those who would then like to increase their understanding of bilingual education and other allied academic fields.

Students will learn through a combination of lectures and presentations, student-led seminars, practical skills work, and projects. They are also expected to obtain the resources to meet the demands educators must face in today’s challenging, dynamic, and intercultural reality with excellence, commitment, integrity, and professional ethics.

Docentes de idioma inglés y otras disciplinas (Historia, Matemática, Ciencias Naturales, etc.), egresados de institutos terciarios (nivel licenciatura o equivalente, IPA, CERP); licenciados en Traducción; maestros de primaria con título habilitante de ANEP, profesionales (abogados, psicólogos, psicopedagogos) que ejerzan la docencia o se desempeñen en instituciones educativas y quieran ahondar en estudios relacionados con la lengua inglesa, el bilingüismo y la adquisición de competencias docentes.

English teachers and those of other disciplines (History, Math, Natural Sciences, etc.), tertiary education graduates (bachelor's degree or equivalent, IPA, CERP); licensed translators; primary school teachers with the National Agency of Public Education (ANEP) qualifications, and professionals such as lawyers, psychologists, educational psychologists who work for educational institutions and wish to enhance their ESL/bilingual teaching skills.

Contar con un título de grado o terciario, cuya carga horaria sea equivalente a la de una carrera de grado.

Nivel de inglés mínimo: C1 (según el MCER)  

El aspirante podrá acreditar el nivel de idioma presentando un certificado de Cambridge Assessment (CAE, CPE). Se aceptarán también certificados TOEFL o IELTS, cuyo puntaje muestre que el nivel que ha alcanzado es el de C1 o más.

Todos los certificados deberán tener una duración no mayor a dos años.  

Quienes no tengan un certificado para acreditar de nivel de idioma inglés, deberán rendir una prueba de admisión.

To have an undergraduate or tertiary degree, whose hourly load is equivalent to that of an undergraduate degree.

Minimum English level: C1 (according to the CEFR).

Applicants may prove their language level by presenting a Cambridge Assessment (CAE, CPE). TOEFL or IELTS certificates will also be accepted, whose score shows that the level achieved is C1 (200 points) or higher.

All certificates must be no more than two years old.

Those who do not have a certificate of English language proficiency must take an admission test.

El programa de Maestría tiene un diseño innovador para la región con cuatro ejes centrales que abordan temáticas de interés académico, relacionadas con la Lingüística Aplicada, el bilingüismo y la interculturalidad, las pedagogías activas para la enseñanza bilingüe, así como también la psicolingüística y neurociencias y su impacto en la adquisición y el aprendizaje de las lenguas extranjeras o segundas lenguas. Se brindan, además, seminarios electivos orientados a diversas temáticas de interés, que complementan la formación troncal.

Incluye dos módulos de formación profesional, cuya meta es desarrollar el espíritu investigador en los educadores, de modo que puedan llevar a cabo estudios a pequeña o gran escala dentro del salón de clase, y así mejorar sus prácticas docentes y realizar aportes valiosos para sus alumnos y colegas.

A su vez, incorpora a las Ciencias Humanas (modelo SHAPE, del inglés) como pilar fundamental para la formación integral del docente bilingüe en el siglo XXI.

The Master's program has an innovative design for the region with four central pods that address topics of academic interest, pertaining to Applied Linguistics, bilingualism and interculturalism, active pedagogies for bilingual teaching, as well as the psychology of language and the neurosciences and their impact on the acquisition of an L2. Additionally, elective seminars oriented to various topics of interest are available as a complement to the core training.

It includes two professional training modules, whose goal is to develop the research spirit in educators, so that they are able to carry out small and large-scale studies in the classroom, and thus improve their teaching practices and make valuable contributions to both their students and colleagues.

Finally, the Human Sciences are integrated through SHAPE model, as a fundamental pillar for the comprehensive professional development of bilingual teachers in the 21st century.

Las clases se dictan en una modalidad semipresencial flexible, que se adapta a la realidad del siglo XXI. Cada asignatura constará de trabajo autónomo, basado en lecturas (previas y posteriores a las clases presenciales), tareas individuales y grupales.

Las clases presenciales se realizarán de manera intensiva, en la sede de la facultad o vía plataformas digitales.

Classes are taught in a flexible blended learning mode, which adapts to the reality of the 21st century. Each subject will consist of autonomous, asynchronous work based on readings (before and after face-to-face classes), individual and group assignments.

Face-to-face classes will be held intensively, at the UM's headquarters or via digital platforms.

Al finalizar el programa completo se obtiene el título de Magíster en Lengua Inglesa y Educación Intercultural Bilingüe.

Además, se ofrece un título intermedio de Especialista en Lengua Inglesa y Educación Intercultural Bilingüe.

Profesora de Inglés, graduada del ISP Dr. Joaquín V. González. Magíster en TEFL (Universidad de Jaén) y magíster en Enseñanza de Español como Lengua Extranjera (Universidad de León), doctoranda en Lingüística (UdelaR).  

Ha enseñado Fonética y Fonología Inglesas, Lengua Inglesa y Discurso Oral en el Profesorado en inglés (Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata), y Fonética y Fonología Inglesas I, en la carrera de Traductor Público (Universidad CAECE, sede Mar del Plata).  

Actualmente enseña Lengua Inglesa, Análisis del Discurso y Fonética y Fonología Inglesas en la carrera de Traductor Técnico-Científico-Literario / Oficial, Didáctica y asignaturas afines en el Diploma en Educación Bilingüe. Asimismo, se desempeña como la coordinadora académica del área de inglés de la FHUMyED y coordina las clases de Plan Ceibal en inglés para el centro remoto instalado en la FHUMyED. 

Asimismo, se desempeña como docente investigadora en el grupo Cuestiones del Lenguaje de la Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata.

Ha participado en congresos de Lingüística Aplicada y las Jornadas Internacionales de Fonética y Fonología en diversas oportunidades y ha contribuido con producciones académicas relacionadas con la didáctica de la enseñanza de las lenguas extranjeras y la adquisición fonológica.  

Recibió premios para representar a Uruguay en el 18th AILA World Congress y ha ganado becas de movilidad Erasmus+ para impartir clases en universidades europeas.

Ana Cristina Chiusano is an experienced TEFL teacher. 1998, I.S.P. Dr Joaquín V. González, Buenos Aires, Argentina. She holds both an MA in TEFL, 2009, Universidad de Jaén, Spain, and an MA in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, 2012, Universidad de León, Spain. She is a PhD candidate in Linguistics and is currently working on her doctoral dissertation.

Throughout the years, she has developed a career as a teacher trainer and has taught courses on English phonetics and phonology, English grammar, Discourse Analysis, Contrastive Linguistics (English<>Spanish), the didactics of English at Teacher Training and Translation Degrees offered by the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, Argentina, the Universidad CAECE, Mar del Plata, Argentina, and the Universidad de Montevideo, Uruguay. She is currently living in Montevideo, Uruguay, and works as a full-time professor and the academic coordinator of the Bilingual Teacher Training Program and the English Department at the Universidad de Montevideo, Uruguay and an Adjunct Professor at Abilene Christian University, Texas, USA, where she teaches online courses on Spanish as a foreign language.

She is a member of the research group Language Acquisition Issues and the Oxford English Dictionary Study Group. She has participated in different local and international conferences on Applied Linguistics and has published peer-reviewed chapters on the Didactics of Phonetics and Phonology.

In 2017, she was granted a full award by Association Internationale de Linguistique Appliquée (AILA) to participate as a presenter at 18th World Congress of Applied Linguistics, Río de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2019, she was awarded an Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility Scholarship to teach at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi. In 2020/2021 she obtained two Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility Scholarships, to carry out a period of teaching at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi and the Universidad de Malaga, Spain, and in 2022, she has been granted an Erasmus+ Staff Mobility Scholarship for training in the University of Hertfordshire, UK.
